The theme of recognition is boldly captured in this work where a she-fox faces outward with a confident and cognizant gaze. A regular visitor to friends of the artist, the fox invited us to recognize its sentience as it recognizes us. The curious stare of the fox emerges from a background composed of sedimented motifs from older paintings, wrapping the animal in a blanket of past work. Color is brought into the brown landscape by these vibrant references to the source photography.
