The American Scream
This work is in new condition, just as the artist made it. A hallmark of Anthony Haden-Guest’s cartoons is that he likes to make them on scraps of paper. The paper is sometimes torn or has jagged edges or spiral binding perforations as well as stains or marks from his handling. These elements are intentional and an integral part of his work.
New work. Haden-Guest works on scraps of paper with torn or jagged edges, which along with some handling stains, are inherent to the piece.

“The American Scream”, Anthony Haden-Guest’s series of 100 cartoons presented over 100 days lampoons contemporary narcissism in the artist’s quirky, spontaneous style. Quasi-political, almost cultural, always critical, these cartoons speak to the frustration roiling beneath the mirror’s surface, hidden behind the amusing distractions of American society waiting to scream.
