Playing on the themes of transition and transformation, this painting looks at what can be seen right outside the window with fresh eyes. Millions of years ago, the desert landscape of current day New Mexico was a vast ocean floor teeming with aquatic life. Remnants of this remarkable past exist today nearby Iris Scott’s new studio in New Mexico in the form of a rock wall nearly 100 feet tall. This clown fish finds a reimaged home among the succulents transplanted from today’s desert expanse into the watery environs of the distant past.
