Co-curated by Kourosh Mahboubian and Gabrielle Aruta, Divine Thread consists of works that juxtapose a tangible, earthy organicism with an abstract representation of the artist’s spiritual belief in reincarnation. Kim’s forms are immediately recognizable, yet they are not copied from any particular imagery. Her work employs repetitions of small, cell-like shapes that combine to form structures reminiscent of moving, breathing organisms. The perceived realness of her work is a testament to her immense technical skill. Painted in watercolor with the fine brush stroke of a miniaturist, her large works on paper and long scrolls appear sculptural, almost photorealistic. Her drawings and small, polymer clay sculptures are executed in that same vein with precision.
