Reduced to an element in the painting, the reconfigured sculptures toe the line between originality and appropriation, joining the work of KAWS in layering references from different mediums into a bottomless abyss of representation. The subtle lighting of the scene enhances its painterly quality while denying viewers an ultimate ground from which to interpret its meaning.
